FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Beginning Friday morning, Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital is adding visitation restrictions to help reduce the risk of spreading COVID and to keep patients and employees safe.

The facility raised its visitation level to red starting at 7 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 31. This means no visitors will be permitted, but there are a few exceptions:

  • Patients with physical limitations or cognitive impairments may have one designated visitor
  • Pediatric patients may have two designated visitors
  • Adult trauma patients may have one desginated visitor
  • High-risk immunocompromised patients may have restricted visitation but will be determined by a clinical team on a case-by-case basis
  • End of life patients will be allowed visitation, but must be coordinated by staff and administration

  • No visitors unless staff determine special assistance is required or a physician asks the patient to bring a responsible adult
  • Pediatric patients will be allowed one designated visitor

Carilion Clinic states that the hospital in Franklin County is the only facility making this change. Hospital leaders say they made the decision based on current data.

Health officials ask those who are allowed to visit to wear a mask, wash their hands, and practice social distancing.
