Local Boy Scout holds car wash fundraiser to revamp playground near Fincastle Fire Department

Good News

FINCASTLE, Va. (WFXR) – The dream of virtually every Boy Scout is to earn the highest award in scouting – Eagle Scout.

One local young man, Merritt Taylor, is working toward that goal by holding a car wash to raise money for a playground needing repairs at the Fincastle Fire Department.

The event is scheduled to take place on Sunday, Aug. 16 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Fincastle Volunteer Fire Department at 25 Vine Street in Fincastle.

The car wash is part of Taylor’s Eagle project.

A scout’s Eagle Project is one of the final aspects a scout must complete before being awarded the top honor in the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) program.

The Eagle Project is meant for the scout organizing the project to demonstrate leadership in both organizing and implementing all aspects of the project.

Taylor’s goal is to raise at least $1,300 which will be the second part of his Eagle Project which will be used to fix wooden boards, construct picnic benches, and replace light fixtures.
