ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Gas prices throughout the Commonwealth have slightly fluctuated, but Roanoke is seeing a small drop in prices.

According to Stacker, on Monday, Feb. 6 the average price for a gallon of gas was $3.47. Now prices are down by approximately 16 cents with the current price for gas in Roanoke around $3.31. This price is just a few more cents than the average gas prices across Virginia. The following list is a breakdown of Roanoke’s gas prices:

  • Gas current price: $3.34
  • Virginia average: $3.35
  • Virginia gas tax: $0.16 per gallon (#48 highest among all states)
  • Week change: -$0.05 (-1.4%)
  • Year change: +$0.16 (+5.0%)
  • Historical expensive gas price: $4.66 (6/13/22)

Stacker reports that Virginia’s Diesel current price is on average $4.58 and is down by eight cents from the previous week. Reports say over the last year, Diesel prices have increased by nearly a dollar.

According to AAA the chart below, compared to 2022, gas prices have seen an increase of around 12 cents. The highest recorded average price for regular gas was around $4.66 and for Diesel gas around $5.74.

However, as prices at the pump continue to change, the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), an oil production organization, says after reviewing the crude oil production data from November and December of 2022, it will meet to discuss changes to the output of oil in the first week of April.
