ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Severe thunderstorms developed across portions of Southwest Virginia Thursday afternoon.

Several warnings went into effect Thursday afternoon, starting at 3:03 p.m. for Roanoke and Franklin counties (including the City of Roanoke and the City of Salem).

Roanoke residents reported hail from quarter size to golf ball size.

Heavy rainfall and gusty winds were also produced by these strong storms. Some wind gusts reached up to 60 mph.
