Friday morning crash in Montgomery County leads to fatality

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – The Virginia State Police is investigating a single-vehicle crash that occurred Friday morning on Interstate 81 at mile-marker 124 in Montgomery County.

A box truck was traveling south on the interstate when witnesses say the front, driver’s side tire blew out. The driver subsequently lost control and ran off the left side of the roadway, went through a guardrail and struck a rock embankment.

Police say the driver, Mark A. Sprouse, 44, of Madison Heights, died at the scene. He was wearing a seat belt.

An investigation into the crash continues.
