UPDATE: Victim identified in second fatal crash in Franklin County

Updated: 3:30 p.m.: Virginia State Police continue to investigate a two vehicle crash in Franklin County that occurred Tuesday evening on Route 122 at the intersection of Hardy Road.

Police say a 2001 Nissan Sentra was traveling east on Hardy Road and failed to yield the right of way at the intersection with Route 122 and was struck by a 1996 Jeep Cherokee.

The driver of the Nissan was identified as Madison Shyanne Keaton, 24 of Hardy. Keaton was wearing her seat belt and died at the scene.

This crash remains under investigation.

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – Virginia State Police says a crash occurred at 1:03pm on Route 220 at the intersection of Route 615 in Franklin County.

A 2005 Ford Taurus was driving southbound on Route 220 when the vehicle failed to yield the right of way while making a turn onto Route 615. The Ford was struck by a 2014 Buick Regal which was travelling north on Route 220.

The Ford was driven by Irene Young Shively of Rocky Mount. She was injured and was wearing a seat belt. The passenger, Jean Young Mattox, also of Rocky Mount was also wearing her seat belt and was transported to Roanoke Memorial Hospital where she later tied.

The Buick was driven by Oliver L. Steiner of Rocky Mount. He was wearing a seat belt and was transported to Roanoke Memorial Hospital for injuries he sustained.

This crash remains under investigation.

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – Virginia 511 confirms to WFXR News that there is a crash on Route 122 near Hardy Road which has also resulted in a fatality.

The southbound lanes are completely shutdown. It is not known at this time when the scene will be cleared.
