ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — As we close out National Foster Care Month, we’d like to introduce you to three more children in Virginia foster care.
Kathryn Likins from Extra Special Parents of Virginia (ESP) first tells us some of the biggest needs in the Virginia foster care system right now. “There are more than 5,000 children in foster care right now,” says Likins. Many of them are teens and she says the biggest need is for foster families to give these children a loving and safe place to stay.
Now, to the teens looking for their forever families.
TRENT:
Trent is a very sweet and loving 15-year-old boy. He loves to give hugs and smile but is shy when he first meets someone. Once he gets to know you, he is very affectionate. He is non-verbal but when something is bothering him, he will make noises to let you know. He also makes different noises when he is happy or gets excited. Trent enjoys his transistor radio, often listening to gospel music or Johnny Cash. Trent Thrives on being outdoors and loves to swing at the playground, Trent loves all things food, especially fruits! Trent needs a family that is patient, loving, and supportive of all his needs.

WILLIAM:
William is a 17-year-old boy who enjoys playing basketball and football as well as chilling on his couch watching movies. William also enjoys listening to music, specifically rap. He has a very unique sense of humor and loves to joke around. William would thrive in a family that would encourage and helps him continue to develop skills for dealing with tough situations and take the time to talk things through and process life situations. When asked what kind of family he would like, William describes a family that is active, but willing to stay indoors watching movies and playing games!

KATE:
Kate is a very ambitious and kind 13-year-old young lady. If she would describe herself, it would be that she is kind, loyal, and playful. She enjoys drawing and listening to music. She enjoys softball and can’t wait to be back on the team! She said being a catcher was an easy position and she was fairly good at it. She loves watching crime shows like Criminal Minds and hopes to be an FBI profiler one day. She describes herself as very meticulous and has to have everything in its place. If there is something she would want others to know about her is that she wants a family that would not push her away when she becomes attached.
