ROANOKE, Va (WFXR) — Each Friday on “Good Day Virginia” is Foodie Friday, we highlight restaurants, chefs, and more throughout southwest Virginia. This Friday is for those with a sweet tooth.

On the corner of Campbell and 5th Street near downtown Roanoke, you will find a bakery waiting to be explored.

“On a daily basis, I offered to the community, um, cupcakes, cheesecake cones,” said Shaneice Jones, Owner of Sweets by Shaneice.

You have to try her milkshakes, brownies, cookies, and custom cakes.

Sweets by Shaneice opened its doors a year ago.

“Never really had a big dream to be anything when I was younger, but, you know, this is definitely a dream come true,” said Jones.

And that dream started with just a cake pop.

“Started baking from home, and then I posted an order of cake pops online and people kept in-boxing me,” said Jones.

From there, the rest is history. Shaneice, has faced a lot while opening her bakery from the pandemic to rising costs due to inflation.

“I’ve, I’ve eaten a lot of the cost stuff, which is kind of hard on me, I’m gonna have to go up a little in my prices, just because of eggs. When I first started they were like $20 for a big case of 60 eggs. Now it’s almost $70 for a big case. That’s a big, that’s a big jump,” said Jones.

But love in her heart and her passion for baking keeps her going.

“It feels like a huge accomplishment,” expressed Jones.

While Shaneice couldnt’ share her secret to her great bakes, she does share some advice for new bakers.

“Make sure you take time, all the time in the world. Nothing that I do is rushed,” said Jones.

Sweets by Shaneice does offer vegan and gluten-free treats upon request, for more information click here.
