ROANOKE, Va (WFXR) — Each Friday on “Good Day Virginia” is Foodie Friday; we highlight restaurants, chefs, and more throughout southwest Virginia.

April is National Brunch Month! While the origins are a bit hazy, many food historians believe the meal is derived from England’s hunt breakfast, a lavish multi-course meal with heavy dishes and fresh fruit and sweets. Others believe it comes from Catholics fasting before mass and having a large midday meal. No matter the history, the breakfast/lunch hybrid is great to enjoy any time of year!

WFXR News’ Hazelmarie Anderson spoke with Nat Sloan, owner of Bloom Restaurant & Wine Bar, and Brandon Sweetenburg, Bar Director, who shared their innovative brunch staples.
