HIGHLAND COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Each Friday on “Good Day Virginia” is Foodie Friday; we highlight restaurants, chefs, and more throughout southwest Virginia.
From vanilla bean to cinnamon the tastes of maple are taking over Highland County, a.k.a “Virginia’s Sweet Spot” during the annual Maple Festival.
WFXR News’ Hazelmarie Anderson spoke with Back Creek Farms co-owners of Pat and Valerie Lowry about what people can expect at the 63rd Annual Highland County Maple Festival, the history of their sugar camp, and a sneak peek at how they make their ‘traditional but with a twist’ maple syrup.
Pat Lowry and Anderson head to the sugar house and Anderson gets a taste of the sweet creation while learning about the old traditions of making fresh maple syrup.
Valerie Lowry and Anderson stopped by the sugar house’s shop to see the variety of sugar waters, infused wines, maple jams, and more while diving into some smokey and unique flavors.
