BATH COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Barbecue lovers, it’s that time again! The Douthat Speed Group is hosting the 7th Annual Campsite Cook-Off Oktoberfest at Douthat State Park.

Each Friday on “Good Day Virginia” is Foodie Friday, where we highlight restaurants, chefs, and more throughout southwest Virginia.

For this week’s Foodie Friday, WFXR’s Hazelmarie Anderson visited the state park campground ahead of the event to talk to the President of Douthat Speed Group Ray Keen as well as last year’s champion and Pit Master of the Ham Squad Dave Dick.

The event will be held on Saturday, Oct. 8 from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. at the Whispering Pines Campground at Douthat State Park — 14239 Douthat State Park Road, Millboro, Va. 24460.

The event will include tastings will include samples of meats from the 21 competing teams, three bands, vendors with homemade food, demonstrations, and craft beer — all made possible by local sponsors.

Entry into the event is $10 per person, meanwhile, children 10 and under will receive free entry. All proceeds will go to the Douthat State Park for improvements.
