CHRISTIANBURG, Va. (WFXR) – A Floyd County man was arrested Tuesday, after making plans to meet up with a 13-year-old for sex favors.
58-year-old Darren Wayne Penrose is charged with four counts of using the internet to solicit sex from a minor.
According to police, Penrose had an internet chat conversation with what he thought was a 13-year-old girl. Turns out it was a investigator posing as a young female. During the chat Penrose arranged to meet the person he believed to be a minor in Christiansburg for sexual favors.
The investigation was conducted by the Christiansburg Police Department, the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office and the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office – all members of the Southern Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (SOVA ICAC).
In statement from Maj. Chris Ramsey with Christiansburg Police Department: “We consider anyone who would not only solicit sexual encounters with minor children, but also then take steps to actually follow through on the meeting, to be extraordinarily dangerous, and we are thankful for the diligent work of our ICAC unit and the assistance of our SOVA ICAC partners in getting these predators off the streets.”
Below are the charges he face in both Christiansburg and Floyd County.
• 1 count 18.2-374.3 – Sexual solicitation of a minor using electronic communication • 1 count 18.2-374.3 – Using electronic communications to propose acts of sexual intercourse with a child less than 15 years of age • 1 count 18.2-374.3 – Using electronic means to expose sexual or genital parts to a child less than 15 years of age
Floyd County Charges:
• 1 count 18.2-374.3 – Using electronic communications to propose acts of cunnilingus with a child less than 15 years of age.
Penrose is being held without bond at the New River Valley Regional Jail.
