Roanoke County Schools recognized for innovative efforts fostering deeper learning

ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – The State Board of Education recognized 15 schools across Virginia as “School Divisions of Innovation” for designing and implementing alternatives to traditional instructional practices and school structures that improve student learning and promote college and career readiness and good citizenship.

Roanoke County Public Schools (RCPS) is among the first districts in the Commonwealth to earn this distinction.

RCPS was recognized for implementing multiple approaches and opportunities that support deeper learning for all students.

“Over the past few years, we have worked to develop a guiding document called the C-Change Framework, which, in conjunction with our RCPS Profile of a Graduate, represents the skills that graduates need to become Opportunity Ready,” said Dr. Ken Nicely, Roanoke County Schools’ Superintendent.
