Driver eludes police in Radford, pursuit ensues

Radford City Police Department arrested a man after a pursuit occurred Thursday afternoon.

Police attempted to initiate a traffic stop on Rock Road in the City of Radford. The pursuit began when the driver, 36-year-old Steven M. Parks, eluded an officer.

The pursuit continued onto southbound Interstate 81 at the 105 exit. Parks then exited I-81 and proceeded onto Wilderness and Lyon Roads. The man then crashed his vehicle into a ditch.

Parks tried to flee on foot, but was captured by the Radford City Police and Virginia State Police.

There were no injuries in the crash.

Parks has been charged with driving on a suspended license after previously being suspended for a DUI (misdemeanor), eluding a police officer (felony), and possession with intent to distribute Methamphetamine (felony).

He was taken to the New River Valley Regional Jail on no bond.
