Dozens gathering in Roanoke Saturday evening to protest human detention camps in America.
It’s all part of a program called Lights for Liberty, and includes an interfaith candlelight vigil as part of a call for change.
Organizer Rachel Levine says these centers are not restricted to our southern border, and that all Americans and Virginians should be paying attention.
“The way that we’re treating people at the border, the way that we’re holding people in detention camps is not acceptable, it’s not who we want to be as Americans,” she said. “Any issue that has to do with our American government and how our government is treating people should matter to all Virginians.”
Saturday’s event is one of more than 70 nationwide this weekend.
