COVINGTON, Va. (WFXR) — After a yearlong investigation by the Covington Police Department, a Rockingham County man is now in custody, facing dozens of charges of sex crimes against children.

According to the department, Amilio Tirado of Elkton, was arrested at his home on Wednesday, Jan. 19 by the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office, with some help from the U.S. Marshals Task Force.

Authorities say this arrest stems from an investigation into allegations of inappropriate sexual conduct with multiple minors.

Police announced on Thursday, Jan. 20 that Tirado was transferred to the Alleghany Regional Jail, where he was taken before the court and arraigned on 26 felony charges, including forcible sodomy, indecent liberties, aggravated sexual battery, and object sexual penetration.

According to officials, Tirado is being held without bond.

“This was a difficult and painstaking investigation,” Police Chief Chris Smith stated. “I am proud of Detective Baker’s efforts to bring this tragic situation to justice.”

Tirado’s next hearing is reportedly scheduled for Friday, Jan. 21.
