ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – A man from Cleveland, Ohio has been sentenced to 60 months in federal prison after he pleaded guilty to using an app to send sexually explicit conversations to what he thought was a 13-year-old in Roanoke.

Matthew Benjamin Foltz, 29, used the Whisper app to send messages under the user name “Macabre_return.”

What Foltz didn’t know was that the 13-year-old girl he was talking to was actually undercover law enforcement.

According to court documents, officials say, several times during the course of their conversation, Foltz expressed the desire to bring the 13-year-old back to Ohio so that he could impregnate her and teach her how to please him sexually.

The court documents also showed that Foltz identified himself as “Michael Halliburton” and went as far as providing airline flight information for a trip to Ohio.

Foltz was charged with one count of persuading, enticing or coercing a person to travel in interstate commerce to engage in sexual activity.

The Department of Homeland Security, Homeland Security Investigations, and the Christiansburg Police Department investigated the case.
