(WFXR) — A Mathews County man was taken into custody in Lynchburg for multiple charges — including murder — after his parents were found dead in their home last week.

On Wednesday, June 8, the Mathews County Sheriff’s Office says it started investigating the disappearance of a family from the New Point area of the county.

Officials say family members had not heard from Adam, Melissa, or Jonathan Moore since Monday, June 6. In addition, Adam’s 2015 Ford F-150 Lariat was missing.

When they went to the family’s home in the 400 block of Whites Point Lane, deputies say they found Melissa and Adam’s bodies — both of whom had multiple lacerations — in the master bedroom.

Meanwhile, 24-year-old Jonathan reportedly left the area in his father’s pickup truck.

Over the course of the investigation, authorities obtained warrants against Jonathan for two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of using a knife in the commission of a felony.

Then, on Thursday, June 9, the sheriff’s office says Adam’s vehicle was found in Lynchburg, so investigators traveled to the Hill City, where Jonathan was arrested without incident shortly after 11:45 p.m.

As of this writing, Jonathan is being held without bond in Lynchburg Adult Detention Center, according to officials.
