Couple is caring for kitten after they say it was tossed from bridge

A Smith Mountain Lake couple say they are caring for a kitten after they saw it tossed from the Hardy Ford Bridge.

The couple was driving down the bridge Monday when they say a person in a white sedan threw the kitten from the passenger side of the car. According to the couple, the kitten initially ended up in the roadway and barely missed being run over.

“It missed the back tire and just missed the other tire and rolled on the outside of it and took off running, and she ran right off the bridge into the lake,” said  Aaron Levy.

Levy says he was able to pull off to the side of the bridge, climb down rocks, and jump into the lake to rescue the kitten. He plans to take her to Angels of Assisi to be evaluated.

“People need to show a little more humanity, it’s just ridiculous,” said Levy.

He says everything happened so quickly, he was unable to get a license plate number for the vehicle or a description of its occupants.
