Child hospitalized after being struck by a car in Roanoke

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — A child was hit by a car in Roanoke on Tuesday morning. According to Roanoke Police, a female child was hit around 8 a.m. at the intersection of 9th Street and Murrary Avenue SE.

The unidentified driver stopped at the intersection to allow other children to cross the street, police say. The driver continued through the intersection when all children had crossed. An unidentified female child then entered the roadway and was hit. She was taken to Carillion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

According to police, the driver stayed on the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. No charges have been filed.

Tuesday is the first day of school for Roanoke City Schools.
