Cause undetermined in fire at Short family home

News

The Henry County Fire Marshal’s Office has now released the cause of the fire at the former Short family home.

The Fire Marshal said the cause is undetermined.

The home, in the 10,000 block of Virginia Avenue in Basset, caught fire in late February.

Firefighters said no one was living in the home at the time and no injuries were reported.

On August 15, 2002, Mary and Michael Short were found dead inside the home. Their daughter, Jennifer, was found dead a month later.

Their killers have not been caught and the investigation into their murders is still open.

Henry County Sheriff, Lane Perry, said the fire does not impact his agency’s investigation.

If anyone has information on the fire or the Short Family Murders they are asked to call officials.
