UPDATE: Driver dies, female passenger in critical condition from James River crash

UPDATE: The Lynchburg Police said the driver of the vehicle that drove into the James River in Lynchburg died.

William Colvin, 56, of Beachwood, New Jersey, died at Lynchburg General Hospital. A female passenger is in critical condition.

Police continue to investigate the incident.

LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) — A car has driven into the James River in Lynchburg, near the John Lynch Bridge. Three people were injured, with two transported to the hospital with “significant injuries,” according to Carrie Dungan with the Lynchburg Police Department.

Dungan said the car entered the James River at the end of 7th Street near U.S. Pipe. The male driver and a female passenger had “significant injuries” and were transported to Lynchburg General Hospital. A male passenger was treated for injuries at the scene and released.
