Bike camp teaches those with disabilities how to ride

The 2019 iCan Shine Bike Camp is back in Roanoke at the Spectrum Sports Academy.

The week long camp helps children and adults with disabilities learn how to ride a conventional two wheel bicycle.

“It’s a door that I thought may never open and so it makes you think how many other doors have we thought, might be closed to us but can be open,” said Susan Young, a parent whose child attended the camp. “It means that this is something that he can do with his friends. It’s a life long skill.”

There are five sessions a day that are 75 minutes long. Each student stays with the same two volunteers throughout the week to get them confident on a bicycle.

The camp concludes on Friday, July 5.
