Roanoke, Va. (WFXR) — The Roanoke County Police Department is among many looking for new officers to join the force. Two officers tell us why becoming a part of the RCPD was the right move for them.

Officer Stephen Manns loves his job. He’s always been interested in serving, his country as a Marine and now his community as a police officer. He started with Roanoke County less than a year ago. With a starting salary of $40,000 and plenty of benefits, he says it could be a good job for you.

“If you’re willing to help people, you’re a great communicator, and you’re the type of person that always wants to excel, I would say it’s definitely a job for you, then,” said Manns.

Roanoke County is looking to hire 9 officers. To get in before the May police academy, you need to apply by March 30th. Sergeant Cara Jacobs joined the force right out of college eight years ago and is happy she did.

“It’s the best job in the world,” Sgt Jacobs said. “I can’t express that enough. It’s very rewarding. The biggest thing is integrity. It’s telling the truth. I mean, that’s a huge thing in law enforcement. You have to be able to testify, and our word carries a lot of weight. It’s the best way to give back to your community.”
