BEDFORD, Va (WFXR) — An 18-year-old is being held at an Amherst County detention center without bond after threats were made against Liberty High School on Wednesday.

The Sheriff’s office said that man and another teenager both face charges.

The 18-year-old faces charges for sharing false information about a threat to bomb, burn or destroy a public building. The deputy commonwealth’s attorney for Bedford County said the charge is the same regardless.

“The nature of what was communicated really has no bearing on the charge itself, it is a class five felony, which statutory punishment is a one-to-ten-year imprisonment and/or up to a $2,500 fine,” said Stickney.

The Commonwealths Attorney’s office is not able to provide information on the other person charged because they’re under 18.

The sheriff’s office said it will pursue this threat, and any others, to the fullest extent of the law.
