ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — With Roanoke students less than two weeks away from returning to the classroom — virtually, that is — Roanoke City Public Schools is helping students prepare for the new year by hosting a “Back to School Extravaganza” next weekend.

For students in need of school supplies, they can stop by Roanoke City Public Schools’ drive-thru Back to School Extravaganza on Saturday, Aug. 29 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at William Fleming High School.

According to school officials, the only time anyone will need to leave the vehicle during this drive-thru event will be to receive immunizations, which the health department will only provide from 9 a.m. to noon. If you are interested in receiving the immunizations, you are asked to bring your insurance card and your child’s immunization record.

Roanoke City Public Schools says transportation will be provided, with the buses leaving promptly at 8:45 a.m. from the following locations:

  • Blue Stone Park
  • Hunt Manor
  • Indian Rock Village
  • Jamestown Place
  • Landsdowne Park
  • Melrose Towers
  • Pilot Street (Country Cookin’)

Officials say Durham will provide at least two buses at each location to accommodate social distancing, but those who ride on the buses are still asked to wear face coverings.
