Back to School

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – The Roanoke City and Alleghany Health Districts are teaming up with community organizations to provide back-to-school immunizations for local children.

The Roanoke City Health Department and the Bradley Free Clinic will host a drive-thru immunization clinic on Saturday, Aug. 15 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Roanoke City Health Department, located in the Civic Mall at 1502 Williamson Road in Roanoke.

No appointment is needed and vaccines are provided at no cost; however, representatives from the Roanoke City Health Department are encouraging those who have insurance to bring their insurance card as well as your child’s vaccine record, if you have it.

The previously-scheduled immunization event scheduled for Aug. 15 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Bradley Free Clinic is canceled and is being combined with the event at the Roanoke City Health Department.

“We need to do everything in our power to ensure our children are as healthy and protected as possible as they return to school this fall. All children need to be vaccinated, regardless if they are returning to school in-person or virtually.”

Jerryann West, Roanoke City and Alleghany Health District’s Public Health Nurse Supervisor

The health districts have collaborated to provide past immunization clinics with G. Wayne Fralin Free Clinic for the Homeless. Additional collaborative clinics are being planned with the Bradley Free Clinic as well as New Horizons Healthcare to provide a variety of opportunities and events for families to get their children vaccinated.
