LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) — On Sunday, Ted & Ted’s Barber Shoppe joined forces with the 434 Saintz football team to put on a back-to-school bash that offered free haircuts and braiding — not to mention plenty of fun activities — for kids in the Lynchburg community.

The co-founder of Ted & Ted’s Barber Shoppe, Ted Jennings, says the confidence from a fresh haircut can make a huge difference for kids.

“Just a simple haircut and just sending them to school, making sure they got the things they need,” said Jennings.

The barber shop partnered with 434 Saintz football on Sunday, Aug. 14 to cut and style hair for free as students prepare to return to the classroom. According to Jennings, the goal was to provide approximately 300 free haircuts, in addition to the free hair braiding

“Me and the barbers, we all came together and put together an event for the kids for back to school: free haircuts and free braids and free face paint and bouncy houses and music, games, giveaways, all type of things for the kids,” Jennings said.

In addition to the free hairstyling services, the back-to-school bash provided free backpacks and school supplies.

Stephen Spinner from 434 Saintz — known to many as “Coach Boo” — says the bash not only makes a lasting impact, but also allows kids a day of fun before all their hard work begins.

“We just out here for the community, trying to get back to school, give out some free stuff, maybe win some stuff and have some fun,” Spinner told WFXR News. “That’s what it’s all about.”

He hopes this will encourage students to get involved in programs like 434 Saintz football, an activity that he says can teach valuable life lessons.

“It helps the kids stay out of trouble, you know, it helps them with their school,” said Spinner.

The organizers of Sunday’s back-to-school bash also provided some fun summer activities, including a bouncy castle, face painting, snow cones, and a dance battle in order to offer an exciting end to the summer break and a refreshing start to the school year.
