ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — The Rescue Mission of Roanoke is ready to host its annual “Back 2 School Blast” next week in order to provide school supplies to families in need, but the registration deadline is Tuesday night.
This drive-thru event will provide backpacks, binders, pens, pencils, and other essential classroom items for grade school students around the Roanoke Valley.
School supplies are expensive. We are here to help families save the money they would typically spend on school supplies so they can use that for other critical needs such as food, rent, or other bills. We are also here because we know the importance of kids showing up to school with new supplies. The stigma of poverty is real and we provide this service to help every child avoid feeling less than others.Rescue Mission of Roanoke
This event is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 9 through Friday, Aug. 13 and is open to residents of Roanoke City, Salem, Roanoke County, and surrounding counties.
“We encourage families to sign up,” said lead organizer Stacy Boris. “The last thing any of us wants is a child going back to school unprepared for the year to come.”
Online registration ends at 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 3, so if you are interested in signing up for next week’s Back 2 School Blast, follow this link.
