Carroll County Schools releases back-to-school plan ahead of first day of school on Aug. 11

Back to School

CARROLL COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – Students attending Carroll County Public Schools have just a few more days before returning to the classroom.

With this, the district has released its Return to School plan.

Highlights of Carroll County Public Schools’ plan include the following:

  • Recommending masks being worn inside all of its facilities; though, they say that they are leaving that decision up to each parent at this time. Staff members are also encouraged to wear masks indoors; however, they are leaving that decision up to each staff member as well.
  • Students riding school buses will be required to wear masks regardless of vaccination status, citing the federal mandate.
  • Masks are not required during outdoor activities but they are recommending social distancing guidelines be adhered to.
  • Masks are required at any Open House event due to the number of parents and visitors attending.

The district is also continuing with the following mitigation efforts:

  • Correct and frequent handwashing is encouraged. Hand sanitizers will still be provided.
  • Three to six feet of social distancing will be maintained when possible.
  • Student access to communal areas will be somewhat restricted.
  • Thorough cleaning of schools will continue to be maintained throughout the day with increased disinfecting at night.
  • Health screening questions will be asked each morning and any students with a fever above 100 degrees or displaying any COVID symptoms will be required to stay at home until symptom free for 24 hours.
  • Student temperature screenings will occur upon student arrival at school.
  • Visitors are allowed. However, they will be required to wear masks.
  • Air scrubbers have been installed in the HVAC systems in each of our buildings and will continue to clean and purify the air within our school buildings.

In the Return to School plan, the district says they reserve the right to require students and staff wear masks if infection rates increase.
