ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — It can be a little nerve-wracking when it’s time to prune the garden. But have no fear, Berkeley Jones from Townside Gardens in Roanoke is here to give us all the dirt on some tools and techniques to help us out!
When it comes to the best types of pruning tools to use in the garden, here’s what Jones recommends:
- Hand Pruners (Bypass Pruners specifically)
- Needle Nose Pruners
- Hedge Shears
- Loppers
- Hand Saw
- Pole Pruners
Jones says there is a specific technique to pruning but it depends on what type of shrub you are pruning, the size, and the time of year. He suggests reaching out to your local extension agency as well as Townside Gardens for further pruning advice.
Jones says Townside Gardens is virtually a one-stop shop. “We sell houseplants, outdoor plants, soil amendments, chemicals, and decor in our shop. We also offer design services as we have two designers on staff and can turn the design into reality with our landscaping team,” says Jones.
