ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Earth Day is Saturday, April 22nd and there are lots of events happening to give back to our planet!
The Clean Valley Council (CVC) is hosting a couple of events to celebrate the day. Executive Director Courtney Plaster gives us all the dirt on where to go to give back to our planet Earth!
On April 22nd, there will be a litter cleanup in the Melrose neighborhood from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Lower Horton Park located at 2502 Melrose Avenue NW Roanoke, Va. There will also be birding, and nature journalling and you can visit the community garden at the Envision Center. Participants will have some garden treats, a tour of the Kiwana Club Nature Park Pollinator Garden, and check out the Roanoke City Recycling truck.
The CVC will also host an Earth Day event in the Grandin neighborhood from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. with Earth-forward vendors, Environmental education activities, and a Take it or Leave it Reuse event in the Heights Community Church courtyard. The Grandin Village Business Association restaurants and shops will be open.
“This is where we all live-we share all of this beauty with the animals and plants. Taking care of it gives us clean air, soil-you know dirt and water! And we need those for our long-term survival!,” said Plaster.
