Thursday, July 13th is National French Fry Day and while many of us appreciate the food, we rarely think about the work that goes into them.
In honor of the day, we spoke with a local farmer about the upcoming potato harvest.
Thornfield farm is a certified organic farm that grows a variety of things from flowers and vegetables to potatoes.
“We grow about a quarter of an acre of sweet potatoes and another quarter of an acre of regular potatoes and they come in the next month or so we have some new potatoes now that we are enjoying the first of,” said Susanna Thorton, owner of Thornfield Farms.
This is the third year Thornfield Farm has been operating in the Roanoke Valley area and they offer online ordering and pick up.
