AG Life: Students take part in a livestock judging contest at Virginia Tech

News

Hundreds of students from around the Commonwealth took part in the annual Block and Bridle Livestock Judging Contest  at Virginia Tech this weekend.

Students observed different classes of livestock and ranked the animals from best to worst.

The goal is to teach future farmers how to recognize good livestock.

The contest is made up of 4-H and FAA members.

“You learn all about the animals and it teaches you how to take care of them when you get older,” said Faith McClary, Livestock Judger.

The next youth ag event is the Virginia Beef Expo and Junior Beef Round-up in April.
