SMITH MOUNTAIN LAKE, Va. (WFXR) — The Smith Mountain Lake Regional Chamber of Commerce is celebrating the success of its first Pirates & Pancakes event.

Volunteers dressed as pirates and mermaids to serve families a tasty breakfast. Kids also dug for hidden treasure in sand-filled pools.

More than 200 people attended the breakfast event on Saturday at Mango’s Bar & Grill.

“It was a super hot day, but we battened down the hatches,” Vicki Gardner, the Chamber’s executive director said. “We look forward to building on this event next year, providing even more opportunities for the community and lake businesses to come together.”

Pirates & Pancakes was part of Pirate Days, a weekend of activities around the lake.
