MONGOMERY COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — First responders in Montgomery County had a busy evening after multiple brush fires sparked throughout the south side of the county.
According to the Montgomery County Fire-EMS Department, crews from Elliston, Christiansburg, Riner, Floyd County, and the Virginia Department of Forestry contained five separate brush fires.
Officials said the fires were in the following areas:
- Christiansburg
- Alleghany Springs
- Riner
- Pilot

According to the Montgomery County Fire Department, the largest fire was in the Alleghany Springs area. Firefighters said the blaze reached about 3 acres.
While on the scene, crews faced extremely steep terrain to establish containment lines. As a result, fire departments were on the scene for almost four hours.
All fires are currently contained and no one was hurt during these incidents.
The cause of the fires has not been released at this time.
