LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR) – The Lynchburg Police Department (LPD) announced they will be implementing a new camera registration and sharing platform, Hill City Connect powered by FUSUS.
Hill City Connect is a new public safety program enabling Lynchburg to help keep the community safe through registering security cameras under FUSUS technology platform. Once businesses or camera owners register their cameras, Lynchburg police can easily request video evidence should an incident occur. Business owners or residents can also give the LPD direct access to camera feeds in case of an emergency.
After camera owners register their cameras, a FUSUS team member will reach out and provide additional information or answer questions.
“In other cities around the world, this has helped to find missing persons, endangered persons, people with Alzheimer’s, people with dementia, and it’s been able to do more than actually address crime itself, but actually help citizens and be able to protect citizens,” said Lieutenant Craig Dowdy, with LPD.
Dowdy says a state grant will be funding the program, and in other localities, it has helped them solve 30% more homicide cases.
LPD hopes this program will help enhance and streamline investigations through community partnerships and the sharing of invaluable information.
