ALLEGHANY COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — The Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office reports that a 32-year-old man is in custody after leading U.S. Marshals on a high-speed chase through Rockbridge County on Saturday evening.
Around 5 p.m. on Feb. 18, Brandon Smathers, 32, of Ohio, led officers on a chase from the Waynesboro area through Rockbridge county. During the pursuit, the Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office and State Police attempted to stop the vehicle. When Smather entered Alleghany County, he collided with two patrol vehicles and was arrested.
During their investigation, authorities learned Smathers had a fugitive warrant for the rape of a 14-year-old in Darke, Ohio. Smathers is now facing charges in Alleghany County for eluding police and having no operator’s license.
He is being held without bond at the Alleghany Regional Jail and is waiting for extraction by the U.S. Marshals.
