UPDATE 5:30 P.M. ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Roanoke Police have launched a homicide investigation after a man was found shot in a vehicle in Northwest Roanoke.

On Sept. 2, around 2:30 p.m., officers were notified of a serious crash in the 1600 block of Aspen Street NW. Once on the scene, police found an unresponsive man inside a vehicle, that had crashed into a storage building.

First responders immediately removed the victim from the car and began rendering aid. During the process, officers discovered the victim had serious gunshot wounds.

The man passed away at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing; however, officers said evidence indicates the shooting took place near the intersection of Tremont Drive and Fairland Road NW. According to police, it appeared the victim was shot in this area and drove to Aspen Road where the crash occurred.

At this time, no arrests have been made and no suspects were located at the scene.

At this time, the street is blocked off to all traffic.
