UPDATE AT 4:55 P.M. ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — The Roanoke Police Department (RPD) has confirmed a man was taken into custody after shots were fired in the Melrose Avenue area on May 20th.

According to the RPD Public Information Officer, Caitlyn Cline, officers were notified of a person suffering from a mental health crisis in the area. She says a man was taken into custody without major incident and is receiving the necessary assistance.

At this time, there are no reported injuries.
