UPDATE 9/30 AT 11:17 A.M. GILES COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — The Giles County Sheriff’s Office has reported another sighting of the man who is wanted for allegedly entering homes across the New River Valley.

Deputies said the man was spotted on a trail camera on Mountain Lake, near the Miles Horton Center on Sept. 30. The picture below was captured at 7:30 p.m.

The Giles County Sheriff’s Office is encouraging residents to keep their homes and outbuildings secured. If you this man call 911.



UPDATE 9/28 AT 7:57 A.M. GILES COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — The Giles County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) is advising the community to stay alert after an armed man allegedly broke into a home in the Pembroke area on Sept. 27.

Deputies said around 3:50 p.m., the sheriff’s office received a 911 call that a man had entered a home on First Street. Authorities said after residents noticed the man in their home, he fled the scene and entered the woods toward Horseshoe Farm Road.

Several agencies including Virginia State Police and Virginia Conservation Police, joined the GCSO to search for the suspect. For over an hour, authorities conducted a manhunt in the area using a Celanse drone team, and K9 tracking teams, but the man was not located.

The GCSO confirmed the man was last seen wearing camouflage pants, a black shirt, and carrying what appeared to be a rifle case.

“Deputies will remain vigilant in the focus area until a resolution is met, including during school hours,” said the sheriff’s office in a Facebook post.

Anyone who sees anything suspicious in the area is asked to call 911 immediately.



UPDATE 9/27 AT 8:52 A.M. GILES COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — The Giles County Sheriff’s Office has announced that the search for the armed man who was wanted on outstanding warrants has been suspended; however, deputies are still patrolling the area.

Deputies said they utilized multiple resources during their search including assistance from outside agencies and K9 tracking teams. Authorities also used a drone with infrared in hopes of locating the man, but were unsuccessful.

The sheriff’s office told WFXR News, that they received a description that was similar to the man who was allegedly breaking into people’s homes across the New River Valley. However, authorities were not able to confirm if it was the same person.

On Sept. 27, the Giles County Sheriff’s announced the search for the wanted man was suspended, and deputies said they would remain vigilant.

“We do not feel the subject poses a direct threat to the public or school facilities,” said the Giles County Sheriff’s Office in a Facebook post.

Deputies said the description of the man has not changed, and if you see him, call 911 immediately.



GILES COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Authorities are searching for a man who has outstanding warrants and was last seen carrying a rifle in Giles County.

Deputies described the subject as a white man wearing a ball cap, blue jeans, and a dark-colored coat with a backpack. He was last seen near Snidows Ferry Road where he walked through the woods toward the golf course.

Giles County deputies said the man was seen carrying a rifle.

The Giles County Sheriff’s Office says authorities are concentrating their search on the Castle Rock Golf Course, Treasure Island playground, and Snidows Ferry Road areas.

At this point, it is not clear if this is the same man that deputies across the New River Valley have been warning residents about over the last few weeks.

However, investigators do not have reason to believe he poses a risk to the public.

Anyone who has witnessed any suspicious activity in the area is encouraged to call 911 immediately.
