ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR)— The United States Department of Justice Attorney’s Office of the Western District of Virginia announced that a Roanoke man is guilty of possessing a firearm.
31-year-old Robert Overstreet II has been convicted by a federal jury of possessing a firearm as a previously convicted felon. According to court documents and evidence presented at trail, December 14, 2022, a detective with the Roanoke Police Department witnessed Overstreet fire a pistol from an SUV parked in the 1200 block of Hanover Ave. NW.
Police then stopped Overstreet and searched the SUV, finding a pistol in his lap. Forensic analysis revealed gunshot residue on both of Overstreet’s hands.
Overstreet had prior convictions for malicious wounding, attempted burglary, and distribution of methamphetamine, as well as a misdemeanor and conviction for assault and battery on a family member.
