CRAIG COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Virginia State Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred in Craig County on January 25.

On Wednesday, the Craig County Sheriff’s Office and state police responded to a home on the 400 block of John’s Creek Road for a domestic disturbance. When officers arrived, they heard a gunshot from inside the home. Officers then attempted to make contact with the people inside.

During their investigation, authorities learned that the person, later identified as 22-year-old Kyle Adam Mills, was armed inside the home. At this point, officers requested negotiators to try to de-escalate the situation. Just before 9 p.m., Mills came onto the front porch with a weapon and officers begin shooting.

Officers say they started emergency care on Mills until EMS arrived at the scene. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators say all officers involved in the incident have been placed on administrative leave.

State Police are investigating the shooting.
