APPAMATTOX, Va. (WFXR) — The Appomattox County Sherriff’s Office has revealed new details regarding the juvenile who allegedly killed five horses in the Spout Springs area on Wednesday, March 15th.

On Tuesday, March 22nd, continued investigation determined a total of ten horses were shot, an increase from the previously reported number of eight. Five horses were killed and five more were wounded in the incident. The five horses that were wounded are continuing to receive veterinary treatment and are expected to survive.

Additionally, a dog was also reported to have allegedly been killed by the same juvenile previously charged.

In addition to the juvenile, 57-year-old Dennis Lee Martin of Sprout Springs has also been charged with Recklessly Leaving a Loaded and Unsecured Firearm so as to Endanger a Child and Willfully Contributing to the Delinquency of a Child.

The Appomattox County Sherriff’s Office shares this is an ongoing investigation and additional charges are pending. WFXR News will continue to update you as more information becomes available.
