AMHERST COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — The Amherst County Sherriff’s Office has reported that a student has been charged with weapons and alcohol possession at school after a routine search was conducted at Amherst County High School on March 15th.
According to the Sheriff, on Wednesday, while searching the parking lot of the Amherst County High School, a canine handler was guided to a student vehicle, prompting a search of the interior.
The search allegedly resulted in the discovery of a 12-gauge shotgun, multiple rounds of 12-gauge ammunition, a knife, multiple alcoholic beverages, and multiple vapor electronic smoking devices containing nicotine.
The student who owns the vehicle was later taken into custody and transported to the Amherst County Adult Detention Center and charged with the following:
- Firearm: Possess at school
- Weapon: Possess knife at school
- Alcohol: Purchase or possess by person <21
- Alcohol: Possess/Drink on school grounds
- Alcohol: Possess/Transport illegally acquired
- Tobacco: Purchase or possess under <21
Amherst County Public Schools says the appropriate disciplinary action has been taken and the Amherst County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the incident. At no time did this incident pose a threat to students or staff.
