Roanoke, VA. (WFXR) — Virginia Western Community College students have earned their spot at the Community College Innovation Challenge through their Community Coral Project. The project supports coral growth through 3D printing of porous structures made of PLA, a plastic substitute made from fermented plant starch.

The Community College Innovation Challenge seeks to strengthen entrepreneurial thinking among community college students by challenging them to develop STEM-based solutions to real-world problems.

Virginia Western Community College’s Kristian Cusimano explains what this opportunity means and details the next phase of the competition.
