Roanoke, Va. (WFXR) — After a year hiatus due to the pandemic, many didn’t know if the Summer Tokyo Olympics would be able to take place at all. Fortunately, after time and consideration, the event that brings the world’s most elite athletes to one central location to compete head-to-head is happening and those — who have been rigorously training — have the opportunity to compete for their chance at a world title.
In this two-part Living Local segment, WFXR’s Sport’s David DeGuzman talks with Host Kianna Price about the eight current and former Virginia Tech Hokies competing in the games. DeGuzman also introduces local spectators to two of those Hokies; golfer Scott Vincent, representing Zimbabwe, and hammer thrower Marcel Lomnicky, representing Slovakia. In a one-on-one interview, DeGuzman spoke to each athlete about the process of getting to Tokyo, their goals, and what they hope to take away from their Olympic experience.
