Read and Ready Festival in Roanoke promotes literacy and access to reading materials

Roanoke, Va. (WFXR) — Recently Roanoke Public Libraries received a substantial donation of children’s books from the SOHO Center. The donation comprises of 41,000 books and is the center’s largest donation to a single public library to date.

To celebrate this generous gift, the library will be hosting an event where they’ll be gifting these books to those in attendance. The goal is to promote literacy and access to reading materials. The Read and Ready Festival will take place at the Williamson Road library branch from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Roanoke Public Libraries Director, Sheila Umberger provides further event details as well as the Star City Reads partners attending.
