Roanoke, Va. (WFXR) — Over the past month birds have been mysteriously dying in the southeast region of the United States as well as have had various injuries. This is causing growing concerns for the health of birds and has experts seeking answers.

Professor of Biological Sciences at Virginia Tech, Dana Hawley studies the ecological and evolutionary mechanisms that underlie host susceptibility, pathogen virulence, and transmission in bird populations.

In this Living Local interview, Professor Hawley explains possible connections to the phenomenon as well as the impact of bird feeders on bird populations.
