Marion Noel recalls his time on Iwo Jima and an iconic photo that lives on

Living Local

Marion Noel was a teenager from Eagle Rock who instead of being drafted decided to join the U.S. Navy. Noel served as a motor machinist’s mate 3rd class aboard the LST 779, a ship that carried men and weapons to the ash-covered beaches of Iwo Jima. Living Local host Kianna Price welcomes Noel to the show to hear about how his ship supplied the flag in the iconic photo of the Marines installing the American flag on Iwo Jima.
